Debra K. Herthel was born in Princeton, Indiana on July 27, 1967. She graduated from the University of Evansville in 1989 and received her law degree from Southern Illinois University in 1993. She was admitted to the Indiana bar in 1994. Debra practiced law in Jasper, Indiana for 10 years prior to joining her late husband, Nick J. Herthel in his law office in 2004. The two then formed the firm that is now known as Herthel & Herthel, Attorneys at Law, PC.
Debra is admitted to practice before U.S. District Court, Southern District of Indiana; U.S. District, Northern District of Indiana, and the U.S. Court of Appeals, 7th Circuit. She is a member of the Lawrence County Bar Association, Monroe County Bar Association and the Indiana State Bar Association.
Debra has served as the attorney for the Orange County Department of Child Services (1995-1998); attorney for the Dubois County Department of Child Services (1996-2002), and attorney for the City of Jasper, Indiana (1997-2002). Debra is a certified family law mediator and certified civil law mediator. She has 25 years of experience.
Nick J. Herthel was born in Bedford, Indiana on September 30, 1959. He graduated from Indiana University in 1981 and the Indiana University Law School in Indianapolis in 1984. Upon being admitted to the bar in 1985, Nick worked for a law firm in Bedford, Indiana before he opened Herthel Law Office in 1989. Nick passed away on January 8, 2019.
